TLSC LEARNER MODEL

Rationale

The Learner Model at Taylors Lakes Secondary College is central to student growth in both their learning and their wellbeing. The model emphasises the relationship between the two domains of Instructional Practice and Student Health and Wellbeing.

At Taylors Lakes Secondary College, we focus on the 6Cs of Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking as we believe that developing these interdisciplinary competencies in our students will best prepare them to actively engage in the world around them. Central to our model are elements integral to developing our students’ wellbeing by equipping them with the skills they need to build resilience and flourish. Our model supports students' emotional and physical wellbeing, their engagement in learning, their sense of self and promotes positive relationships. Our model is encased by the e5 Instructional Model used by our teachers, which allows our students to understand a concept overtime through a series of established phases. This provides an overview of the learning cycle and breaks it down into five phases of instruction: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.

The three concentric circles of TLSC Learner Model are of equal importance and work together in differentiated ways to support all TLSC learners with their learning journey.
